outie.net Media Portal

outie.net 2.0 is coming!
outie - 2-17-2012 at 05:14 PM

I am turning this into a reddit style site soon. It's ready and fully functional.

I will import all the existing members and emails into it. When the new site is up, you must go through the forgot password link to get your new password.

Here's a preview of outie 2.0. Let me know what you think!

jengasama - 2-17-2012 at 07:04 PM

Wow this is cool!!! cant wait to use it!!

Battalion - 2-17-2012 at 07:46 PM

reddit is awesome for reading on cellphone when bored to shit
it's easy to scroll down unlike traditional threads. It's a good change regardless, hopefully more members will come back. Although you might want to make sure they don't have any of their format copyrighted...

hairball - 2-17-2012 at 08:39 PM

lol I think I will miss this old site. I'm just sooo used to it.

Chi - 2-17-2012 at 08:49 PM

wow, was this in the plans for a while now?

seems just like yesterday someone mentioned it in the other thread.

if it's imminent, i hope it works out for you :P

edit: ah, didn't read the end of the other thread. let's give it a shot i guess.

Illicit - 2-18-2012 at 12:17 AM

i really like outie's home page though.
the format is original and it's simple to see popular/new topics while being to enjoy the pictures of popular threads.

plus in reddit's case, because the user base is so big, it's enjoyable to read the comments from most-upvoted to least, but with outie, it's more enjoyable to follow the conversation when reading all the comments in sequential order.

that's just what i think.

outie - 2-18-2012 at 12:47 AM

I know, I am going to miss this too. As you can see there really hasn't been much activity any more. There are still quite many users visit everyday. I just want to test it out and and see how it goes. It's really dying at its current form.

Chi, it was just mentioned in the past few days. I looked up some info and was able to find something that will work with some customization. It's all ready and after I import the users and emails it's good to go.

atomicduelist - 2-18-2012 at 09:14 AM

nice
I guess I'll try to help out also

hairball - 2-18-2012 at 12:38 PM

I have a question. If outie 2.0 is released, is this current outie going to be deleted?

No, it will probably remain and become read-only. That's only if 2.0 is working out.

Smart_Monkey - 2-18-2012 at 07:59 PM

I realize you want more userbase and such, but making a reddit clone will just make new users laugh at us.

pr3ciouzboi - 2-18-2012 at 07:59 PM

well let's see how it goes. As long as the same people are still on and still keep posting whatever is being posted, I sure will remain a returning visitor :)

Pillsbury - 2-18-2012 at 10:22 PM

Im not exactly sure how I feel about this yet. Its true, outie has been on the decline for a long time though. By changing it to that, outie will lose its entire identity. Reddit already has too much content for someone to go through. And with such a thin border between reddit and outie, it seems like there is no point to even visit outie.

The problem with outie was that all the active members left. And that is partly due to the community itself. The outie community acts like any regular online community on a huge site like 4chan. This just doesnt work, people post on smaller community sites because they can get away from that dumb flaming and troll posts and general idiocy. Strong foundations for a small site like this is built on members that respect each others post and like each other.

This new reddit style may encourage more posting and activity and make infrequent members become more frequent. However I dont foresee it bringing back the old active members and it will be difficult to attract new visitors based on the current member base. No offense to the current frequent visitors but we simply do not post good stuff. Our threads are boring and unimaginative and our posts are even worse. I remember when I would browse through the "interesting stuff" section and actually expect to see some interesting stuff. I remember going through the girls or porn section and see constant updates.

I still visit outie regularly even though Im not a frequent poster. Though this site is pretty boring but its in my bookmark section and its a super quick read and browse. I hope this style can change this site's woes. But at same time I hope that the changed format doesnt change outie's own unique identity when it comes to the site, content and community.

painfulburn - 2-18-2012 at 11:13 PM

Hmm i can see a lot of good coming from making this a reddit style.. Outie can have more catered news towards what outie has always done. However, with this transformation it sounds like a subreddit .../r/outie

But i think you are right in taking the risk, the site is dying and might as well try it and see if things improve. With the voting system, at least now it doesnt look like a deal forum... at least it will be more interactive with the users, and users will feel that they actually have an impact.

sobakchi - 2-19-2012 at 12:13 AM

Outie is "on a decline" because most of us grew up and got jobs, spent less time on the web.
Hell I went back on Outie cause too many sites I usually went on are now on the Firewalled list

A more mobile friendly version of the site would appeal to a younger audience.
Anyways if you need any help graphic wise I'd be happy to contribute as long as my boss *cough GeneralX *cough doesn't find out

IllusionX - 2-19-2012 at 08:31 AM

yeah, a mobile friendly version would be good.

I find most of the goodies being posted on FB anyways.. Perhaps it is one of the reason why ppl post less here. Outie used to be the one place to share all the random stuffs we find on the web.

Also, don't forget that about 50% of the outie community is based in Montreal and 40% in Toronto then 10% the rest of the world. At least, this was the approx share a few years back.

can outie become even better than facebook?

Most likely not...nowadays most people get their interesting news on FB and it's faster that way. Also, on FB, the contents that they post are exclusive to their friends so there's no flame wars. And with the "Like" system it allows them to get attention from their friends which encourages them to post things on FB rather than on Outie.

In order to make Outie more active again, the community in Outie needs to feel more connected to each other. Nowadays, it feels like half of the members are weird strangers who lurks around Outie for porn. As a result, people like me dont feel the need to post anything here anymore because I dont care about those people. Also because I dont get any appreciation from doing it either.

xtorox - 2-19-2012 at 01:55 PM

m.. 2.0! seems interesting.. never use reddit~
what can make outie more interesting.. i m getting so many stuff on 9gag tho..

pr3ciouzboi - 2-19-2012 at 02:01 PM

What I've noticed, and probably many others is that all the items that were available in the "Market" section are gone now. Will that still be an available feature on the new or current layout or will this be gone due to the Piracy copy act?

Alchemy - 2-19-2012 at 04:55 PM

Wow looks great. I like going to reddit and just having a good laugh. My only thought is that we'll need to keep the content flowing :D

-skyline- - 2-19-2012 at 09:09 PM

I don't think it is so much the layout, but it is the content that is lacking.

outie has its own style and that is why i still come to the site. it has a certain level of anonymity that facebook does not offer. members can freely express themselves uninhibited by being identified... this leads to sometimes outrageously funny comments which may take form in reply pictures or other embedded media.

taking a reddit approach to me almost seems like a step backwards. it seems less graphical. less unique. less outie like.

outie - 2-19-2012 at 10:58 PM

Here's the URL:

If you guys want to contribute, please feel free to do so. After all it won't go anywhere without your contribution. Let's see where this will bring us!

1337 M4573R - 2-19-2012 at 11:30 PM

How do I register on the new site if the old email I used was a spam email..... So I don't get a forget password...

outie - 2-19-2012 at 11:35 PM

In that case you can PM me your new email and I'll update it. I know there's a flaw in this but this is only way to reserve the usernames.

Your other option is to register for a new account, of course.

CeBin - 2-19-2012 at 11:51 PM

o boy... outie website changing... to reddit style?
never really checked out that website but, i guess we do live in era, where we need to adapt to new/different things... when this style was new, i didn't like it in the beginning, but in the end liking it... might be same for this new style... i dunno...

materia - 2-20-2012 at 12:17 AM

looks interesting I rike it a lot :)
damn forgot my password ;)

outie - 2-20-2012 at 12:20 AM

Yes everyone's password is gone in 2.0 and must request new password.

pr3ciouzboi - 2-20-2012 at 08:38 AM

So can anyone explain me how to post new things on the new website? The only thing I've found is the "Submit" link on the far top right hand side. That only allows me to post something via URL. Is there a location where can I actually type something up or is that gone now?

Also, where can I modify my profile?

outie - 2-20-2012 at 08:56 AM

Submit -> Specify an URL or check the submit w/o URL checkbox to proceed to post w/o URL.

materia - 2-20-2012 at 11:21 AM

New Outie is going to bring new/old members back since its evolving into what social media are doing now which is great

Hei - 2-20-2012 at 03:27 PM

I keep getting a login failed trying to login with the new password..anyone else getting this?

Chi - 2-20-2012 at 04:23 PM

^ same, but i'm sure it's just something stupid we're doing wrong. we'll see.

outie - 2-20-2012 at 04:56 PM

Weird, are you referring to the temporary password generated? Can you PM me that password so I can take a look?

EDIT: I think it has to do with the length of the username. It wants 4 characters. Although I was able to import them but I think it isn't allowing you to log in.

superpowerboy - 2-20-2012 at 08:07 PM

I don't post often, but I gotta say this because I'm not a big fan of the new layout. I really like the outie homepage, there's not enough good content that it goes up and down on a daily basis that the new format will be better for. I like the nice pictoral format of the current site, which is better than previous version. A lot of times, people will bicker when things are changed, but I feel that the current version was a good improvement over the old version but the Reddit style change really needs some thought.

thenorthsun - 2-21-2012 at 09:01 PM

the right side feels too charge, the top menu a bit too big? it is competing with the logo?, everything feels too square, css3? a darker blue for color theme? -- just suggestions

Hei - 2-22-2012 at 01:12 AM

so for the people with less than 4 character usernames...should we just make a new? or can outie do something about that ?:D

Advanced - 2-22-2012 at 04:42 PM

will my post #'s be transferred over as well?

SilentWish~* - 2-28-2012 at 07:39 AM

outie!
i'm still around but just don't post/reply to post too often anymore :)

not sure of the reason.. guess as i grow older, i lack the motivation of making myself be heard by random people over the internet?

but i'm always around browsing, hoping to see some interesting posts like the old days

just checking in to let you know that old members are probably still here lurking around (oh well you can probably see from the logs yourself)

support!

RedEyeZ - 4-3-2012 at 08:20 PM

Is Outie 2.0 down for temp or down for good? o.O

yugrudfoo - 4-13-2018 at 05:13 PM

Is it out yet
