NECís Breakthrough Organic Radical Battery

NEC has announced a high speed charging, Flexible and super thin battery only 0.3 mm thick. The electrolyte is kept in a Gel State due to which it is possible to bend the battery. The material's electrochemical reaction speed is fast and it can move the electrolytic ion smoothly as a result of which resistance offered during charging is quiet less. Due to this the battery can be fully charged in only 30 seconds. It is environmental friendly too as harmful substances like Lead are not used. The energy density per square meter is 1mWh.

ďOrganic radical polymer assumes an electrolyte-permeated gel state, and is the reason why the rechargeable battery is so remarkably flexible and pliant. In addition, the organic radical polymer electrode reaction is extremely fast and the supporting salts migrate through gel state polymer very smoothly. This results in little resistance to the charging reaction and an incredibly fast charging time of less than 30 seconds.Ē

ďÖit is also environmentally friendly as unlike conventional rechargeable batteries, it does not contain any harmful heavy metals such as mercury, lead or cadmium.Ē
- NEC

The battery is currently only capable of 1 miliwatt hour per square centimeter. According to ComputerWorld, that is only enough to keep an embedded LED lighted for 20 minutes before requiring a recharge. The most important application of this battery is probably for active RFID tags. But nonetheless, it is a great progress in the right direction.

i thought the nokia 888 was fake and was only done for some april fools thing..?

and from above, this is REAL and is already made right..?
so did they copy the concept nokia made?
Since i they did, they'll be getting a lawsuit very soon from nokia then...

if this is fake, then nothing should happen i guess

i agree, this is a good start to something

the nokia 888 concept phone is wicked, and i really do hope that it wil come out.

as for the battery, im pretty sure that it will last for longer as it will be developed more and more in the future

nothing is really 'great' at first, but it could be very fine later on :)

good stuff~ kick azz battery!

ok the 888 was a fake, i think! i mean, im sure it is....
this one, is the real thing.

No much in common that you can say Nokia can sue NEC's ass.
Likewise Energizer sues Duracell.
