Question about Laptop: Heat
if i want to help dissipate the heat on my laptop, whats the best way? I currently have a usb fan that I blow at the keyboard at an angle, but looking
at the cooling fan kits, they are all blowing from below - i guess that's because heat rises right? if i blow the fan at the keyboard would that
actually trap the heat?
when i touch on the keyboard / atop the fan area, it is cooler - but i'm not sure if it is only the surface that I cooled, and not the internal
bit.
the pic below shows my lil usb fan blowing, not at the usual 30degree down, but sideways..
so does these usb fan kits help? those that sits below the laptop? i need to make a CAI for it... but where does fan takes air in? I can't find the
air intake ... is it from the keyboard area? cuz, if thats the case, then blowing wind at the keyboard would be good?
edit
forgot to mention that my laptop is raised by about 2cm, so i guess that helps a bit too.

The intakes are all on the sides. Just like your laptop. But remember that with a USB port, there is power drain. So you better have that thing
connected 24/7. USB ports pull 5V I believe, not sure, but it's a lot for a laptop.

You should buy one at your local retail store and try it. If it doesn't work well, return it. My laptops all have intake on the bottom and blow out
hot air on one side. However, mine don't have heat problems and they run very quiet, even at 30+ deg celcius.
I am sure they help somewhat by having more air circulation, with the expense of 3 more fans blowing! Try and let us know your result =)

The problem is his laptop's fan is kind of dying which is the root cause for the overheating. Plus the surging heat in the uk doesn't help.

check the forums at www.laptopreview.com
I have a compaq laptop and the it stays relativelycool even when the ambient temperature gets pretty high.
WEll, I shouldn't say cool, but cool enough to not need the laptop fan to turn on at all.

there are limited fans for the laptop. I had to take mine apart since a freakin SD card got stuck in there... and so there are usually 3 fans. 1 fan
for expelling heat, one for blowing on the cpu, and one for the video card. Those are the main things... just dont let your cpu or gpu heat up. As
long as they run, they'll be fine. Threshold temp is around 50-60 degrees celcius on full load depending on the computer.
