Not sure about Japan Street but there's a Japanese town located in New Jersey http://www.mitsuwanj.com/en/. I'm not Japanese but I go there for Japanese Ramen and Japanese stuff all the time. There are
many Japanese living in that area and there are plenty of Japanese sushi place that you can try.

St. Mark's Place and Aster Place btwn 2nd and 3rd Ave ,and E7th st to E10th st that area.
And if u wanna check out the Korean town it's on 36th st around Macy's. Macy's is on 34th st
If you are going to the Mitsuwa Market in New Jersey, you can take the bus at the bus terminal on 42nd street.

There's one around St Mark's Place: Link. There's a small Japanese supermarket (on 2nd
floor) around that block as well.

From my stay in New York for a few months, I didn't see any Japantown or any area that was as large as Chinatown. There are grocery stores and
restaurants here and there.
I recommend Monster Sushi. This restaurant is fucking amazing, huge pieces of sushi, top quality, and low price. I stuffed myself(I can eat ALOT)
and my gf for around 70 dollars on sushi.
I forget the address, all I remember is it was somewhere around downtown, in the 40s or lower.
