I'm pretty sure that most cities have this "why we are the best city" thing haah.

But I guess you'd have to be pretty blind if you don't think Singapore is beautiful and among the top.

singapore is definitely one of the best places in the world... to visit. Staying there long term is another story though. The laws are quite strict from all the news i've heard. I wouldn't be able to adapt easily.

I'm sorry but I have to say this.
I'm against capital punishment myself but I'm not here to convince you that it's wrong.
But Singapore had the highest capita per execution in the world ten years ago but it still remains as one of the highest nowadays.
It seems like they execute almost anyone they don't like.
Along with all their restrictions...it makes it seem like Singapore is one step away from a police state
Knowing all that, I don't think I can like a country like that

singapore is a fun place to visit, but its a hell to live in. with all the laws and pressure, you are basically a ticking time bomb waiting for the right moment to explode

32. Stretch a dollar till it hollers
Get a decent chunk of ice cream wrapped in soft, fluffy bread along Orchard Road, quaff a nice piping cup of jet-black coffee in any of the numerous 'kopitiams' (coffee shops) or even stay at a spanking new hotel for just one dollar. How's that for recession busting?

1 dollar you can stay at a hotel...hmm...i wonder what the catch is

This is ridiculously false... Singapore isn't cheap at all! malaysia is cheap, singapore is a LITTLE less than a comparable western city. dumb. It's the 10th most expensive city in the world!!

Singapore is fine, but so dull. Try to imagine living in a country smaller than rhode island!

i'm sure singapore is a great city...hopefully you can come back from there and say the same, but my guess is no.

i can see maybe 10 of those items are reasons why singapore is a GREAT city....the rest are merely reasons why its a decent city (ie, "singapore has 22 libraries"), exaggerations (best "alternative culture" shop....in the world? really?), or "interesting facts about singapore" (they have a magic show at a bar....*yawn*)

no mention of things like freedom of expression/journalism (singpore is on par with afghanistan and iraq), nightlife, beaches, beautiful women/men, outdoor activities, etc.

also, i doubt its the food capital of the world. i can't see it beating out toronto/vancouver in terms of authentic international (all continents) food. or cities like new york for 5-star cuisine.

Yah i agree with almost all of your reasons especially how u meantion that there are 10 reason why it makes it a great city and only a few that makes it an ideal city!

I agree with the food capital claim thou, Singapore has many international food from around the world although maybe not to an extent of multicultural as Toronto, but its pretty close. Its not only about the multicultural or extent of international food, but whats makes it the food capital is also the price, for a international meal there would cost u no more then $5-6, here in Toronto u have to get ready to pay up at least $12!!

Other then that, although it claims to be a multicultural city it of course to not to the extent Toronto is, in fact there is no other city in the whole world that is more multicultural then the city of Toronto, Canada!! (FACT: "With over 100 languages spoken here, Toronto is the most multicultural city in the world according to the United Nations.")

I have relatives that live there and guess what? Their kids all moved to Canada, and they are coming here for retirement (only reason they don't leave now is because of their jobs). Doesn't seem like something people who think it's the greatest country in the world would do.

On another note, while

"With over 100 languages spoken here, Toronto is the most multicultural city in the world according to the United Nations."

may be a fact according to the UN, I do not believe that really says anything at all. To me, true multiculturalism consists of many cultures participating in and appreciating others' cultures. In Toronto and in cities across North America, that is simply not happening. Sure, over 100 languages are spoken, but they don't speak to each other, so what's the point? All you really have is (and I'm exaggerating to make a point) 100 cultural ghettos.
