Television

Hey guys, not really a tech guy, but I was planning to get a new tv so people dont think I live in a cave with my old tv box.

Im kinda leaning towards this:

http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?langid=EN&logon=&sku_id=0926HDS0010115768&CMP=ILC-BBY_hmpg1_slide2

was at 899$ a minute ago! ARG FUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Anyhow, anyone knows anything about tvs? Planning to watch movies, shows and play my wii on it. My budget is around the 1000$. Ty

Looking for a 46" btw

I wish outie will get a sense of humour, so what if I masturbate with my dad? Dont have to delete my post...

There is a 46" Samsung on sale this week at FS. I believe it's the LN46B550. It's only a 60hz TV but i bought the same model 3 months ago for $100 more. Or you can wait until boxing day.

For LCD TVs, I exclusively choose Sharp. Not only they make their own panels (as opposed to Sony that outsources from Panasonic), the picture quality is great. It's interesting to note that my LC46D64U bought about a year ago doesn't have a conventional straight-line pixel grid alignment, but rather the pixels are circular and arranged in a triangle pattern. I find that this softens a lot the picture and makes it easy to the eyes. I outputted several 1080p video samples from my computer connected via HDMI, including a pilot-cam footage from a F14 fighter jet, and I can tell you that even sitting about 2 feet away, I can really feel myself flying, vertigo and all.

The TV is working out fine for me. I was debating whether to spend more to get a 120hz TV but decided not to. For the average user like me the samsung is more then enough.

It's in the health section because it's not healthy when people think you're living in a cave!

Now that we are on the subject, do any of you guys own a plasma? I have been thinking of getting a plasma, but I have been a bit hesitant because of its burn-in problems and it's life span. So please, do tell me your experience and would you prefer it over an lcd instead.

If you play a lot of games with fixed HUDs, it'll burn in. A friend who played GTA4 on his plasma has the overhead map permanently burned into his lower left corner of the screen. This is why LCD is more computer-friendly, but if you use it primarily for movies and TV shows then plasma can get a much better contrast ratio and brighter colors.

I'm seeing all these price drops for all these flatpanel TVs recently, I'm beginning to feel like I'm in the market for one as well to go with my newly acquired PS3.
:D

the latest gen of plasmas is supposed to have cleared up the screen burn issue. however, i've read that if you do you screen burn on your plasma, you can fix it by changing to a channel or input that is all snow and leave it for a few min (for those of you too young to understand what i'm talking about go ask someone older) <_< >_>
