1st Attempt at HDR
Well guys, here's my first attempt at HDR.
This is just near where I live. Actually walking distance; the lake is sewage drainage actually... haha lol
I swear there is mutant fish living in the lake.
Anyway, I already made one major mistake in this photo, but I'll let you guys find that out.
Anyway, constructive criticism is welcome..
Oh, also just for you curious people, this was NOT shot with my Canon EOS 1D Mark IV.
It was shot with my Canon EOS 7D.

i dunt have HDR so i dunt know exactly how it works, but the framing was nice. Could have included the last little bit of the tree up top so it
doesn't seem cropped off. The image looks a bit grainy tho, and parts of the image seem underexposed. Maybe u have to play with the range of
exposures?

Ahh yeah, that's one thing I didn't do was noise reduction. I heard somewhere usually HDR requires that.
Which parts exactly seem underexposed?
If it was the left, it was because the sun was directly behind to the left of me so, that part of the image was not hit by the sun.

Yea the left part (esp noticeable in the trees) are underexposed, but it feels like the general mid-section of the photo or the opposite side of the
shore of the lake is a bit underexposed or could have more information.

well i'm not a professional but IMO, even tho its hrd, it still looks flat and you could of played a bit more with the contrast and tone, and the
left side is underexposed, maybe your overexposed shots weren't long enough(shutter speed wise if u know what i mean), try taking 4-5 shots to
increase the accuracy of each details. A good overexposed shot could take care of noise problems when u play with the shadows
: )

Yeah, I had 3 shots on this at -2, 0, and +2.
I'll try out 5 shots then.
I'll see what I can do about the contrast and tone.
And lol, yes there, is one major thing wrong with this picture, but I still won't say. haha
Anyway, anyone know where I can actually get noise reduction?

the scene doesn't have a big enough contrast, you need a scene with highlight and deep shadow to have some obvious effects
this scene is too well exposed
my 2 cents

what was the time delay between each shot? were you bracketing or did you adjust the EV manually? catching tree branches cleanly when using HDR is
kinda hard because of the slight ghosting that appears from either camera shake or the wind blowing the branches. I would try using it on objects that
are 100% stationary for a better outcome.
also, didn't the 7d just come out recently?

Yup, 7D came out a few months ago. I think I could have gotten better results with my 5D Mark II, but decided not to.
I bracketed also.
lol Never thought about the branches what can be more stationary than a tree?? haha

re
DUDE, not to be a douche but why the hell would you have a 7D, 5D mark 2 and a 1D mark 4?
its clear that you're pretty amateur and people that know their stuff can do a better hdr with an xs. i suggest you sell your stuff and learn from
the basics cuz i can tell you now that using a 5D or a 1D wouldn't help you get a better hdr.
know your shit, then buy the gear, it makes it that much more fun in owning good gear when you know the difference

Ok then... I guess I should feel flattered by someone who just registered recently and their first post is to actually insult me without actually
knowing about anything I do...
Well, at least I know I have that kind of an effect on people in this website.
Just because I'm trying out HDR for the first time, doesn't mean I'm new to photography...
Thanks for being a douche and pretty much stating to me that you're jealous of my equipment.
Oh, and to answer you, no I'm not selling my stuff.

i'm not a pro in HDR or in photography,i'm still in my learning stage but IMO, the tone mapping i think is not done very well, that's probably the
reason why some of the areas in the pic is dark or under-exposed. as to what's wrong with the pic? is it related to the rule of 3rds? hehe since the subject (tree) seems a little off..or is it just me??
