McMansions In Toronto!

I saw the initiative to try and revive this forum, so I think I'll give it a whirl too (even though it looks like it's already fizzling out).

No this is not a real estate advertisement and no, I'm not in the market for these types of homes. However, I was bored lately and did a bit of window shopping. If it's illegal to post these, then say so! Just don't sue me, lol!

I think it's kind of cool how these houses (mansions) exist very close to us (Bayview&York Mills) and there's a lot of them! Many have tennis courts, indoor pools, indoor courts, underground garages, movie theatres, saunas and more!

I found these two to be the most interesting to me. The first one imo is a very humble sized home -- it has all the amenities one would want (i.e. pool, theatre, etc!) without too much wasted space. Plus, the indoor pool/court is the way to go here in Canada. The second house is just a full blown McMansion. All the pictures below are from the first home cause for the 2nd one, I couldn't save any decent sized pictures to my desktop.

The coolest/weirdest part is that if you go on google maps and do street view, 'A LOT' of these home owners drive very 'basic' cars (i.e. hondas, toyotas, etc). It kind of surprised me tbh. Of course you'll sometimes see the Ferraris stored in the garages but still -- you'd think they would drive an S-Class as their daily driver or something.

You can find more of these homes on realtor.ca; just look around the area and click multimedia if you want to see more pictures of them (not always an option though). This is just for fun, for inspiration, for whatever; don't take it too seriously!

These houses look amazing! I am loving the one with library! I can't say I'm an avid reader myself but its good to see how the other side lives.

To the thing about cars, I personally think expensive cars should not correlate with expensive houses. Houses are an investment! Cars are not. Rich people are rich because they know how to spend their money.

Besides, they probably keep all the good expensive cars inside away from the sun.

Yes, indeed! All of the 4 pictures above are from the same house. It is probably my favourite. It's a very humble sized bungalow with only 3 bedrooms -- 1 masters and 2 in the basement. Of course, that library, oh my God. Absolutely magnificent.

Unfortunately most of these houses in the area don't sell very well, so their prices don't appreciate as much as one would think. You buy and sell these at the wrong time, and you'll most likely be facing a huge loss. For instance, just because you paid X dollars to renovate an indoor court, doesn't mean the next owner is willing to pay for that. You generally buy these homes to live in them, not to flip them. There was this house in Rosedale (another affluent area) that sold for 4M less than its initial asking price, which took about 2-3 years to sell. Quite a shame. Maybe Toronto's housing market is just overheating.

I agree with the cars. I guess me being a car enthusiast, it kind of surprises me. Well glad they're making sound decisions!
